Electronics & Communication Engineering forms the nucleus of most of engineering and technology applications in the industry especially in the service sector. Advanced countries in the world have gone to such depths of Electronics today that an Electronics & Communication Engineer is indispensable in every front. Electronics is now a part of our everyday life, from your pocket FM radio to televisions, computers, mobile phones and even the high-end satellites that process and sends images. The B. Tech course in ECE aims at providing a strong foundation in theoretical, practical and design aspects of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE). In the first two years the curriculum covers all areas of electronics and communication engineering under the broad categories of electronic device& circuits, electro-magnetic field theory, number systems, combinational & sequential circuit, logic families, and representation & analysis of various signals. After ensuring a strong base of electronic & communication fundamentals, the course content covers most of the advanced field of application viz micro wave & radar, embedded system, wireless, optical fiber & satellite communication, Digital signal processors & Data communication Networks. There are exclusive laboratory courses aimed at imparting the design knowledge of electronic circuits. The electronics design laboratory project in the sixth semester and the project work in the seventh and eighth semesters are aimed at providing opportunities to the students and guiding them to develop new electronic systems useful for real life applications using theoretical, practical and design knowledge. The elective courses are aimed at imparting knowledge in the specialized and state of the art topics in the broad categories mentioned above. Thus the B. Tech program offered by the department provides an ample opportunity for the aspiring students to become Electronics and Communication Engineers with sufficient knowledge to take up the Engineering profession. Students learn well established technologies and emerging trends in Signals and Systems, Digital Signal Processing. Microprocessor and Micro-controllers, Communication System and Protocols, VHDL and VLSI. The objectives of the Electronics and communication disciplines are:
  • To develop communication engineers to meet the increasing demand of manpower in the field of communication technology.
  • To impart in depth knowledge of Communication Engineering Theory and Practice sessions by exposing them to various fields like optical Network, Signal processing(Basic and Advanced),High Performance Networks, Advanced Radiation Systems, Digital Communication, etc.,
  • To provide the theoretical basis of communication through Probability Theory and Random Process.
  • To train the students in the laboratories on the design and implementation of communication subsystems based on DSP, Wireless Communication, Antenna Design and Optical Network.
  • To provide hands-on sessions to use software tools like Matlab, Labview, Xilinx wireless antenna design, RFID antenna, Filters, etc., To provide latest trends in the field of study through seminars and assignments based on research papers and new techniques like 3G, 4G, etc.
  • To prepare professionals with advanced knowledge of their respective field so that they can serve the industry and R&D organizations and can take up an academic careers, and pursue further studies.

The committed and motivated faculty nurtures the hidden talents of students by systematic education through classroom, laboratories, workshops, industrial visits, etc. This is amply evident through excellent results and highest merits in the university examination. New facilities, a professional PCB fabrication facility and LABview software, used in Industrial R & D Laboratories, have been procured and commissioned. The course of M. Tech in Electronics and Communications is of 2 years. These 2 years are divided in 4 semesters, each of 6 months. Subjects usually studied under this degree are advanced subjects of specialization in the field of Electronics & Communication.

These engineers would be involved in creating and sustaining cutting edge technology to stay ahead in competition. Communication is a rapid developing trend and globally required in this world. Study and research in various communication techniques are very much needed in today’s advanced applications. It can be easily and immediately accepted in diversified fields such as industries, biomedical science, defense, communication and above all for the community services. Hence it is necessary to generate as much expert professionals as possible with specialization in communication. An electronic engineer can find job in Consumer electronics manufacturing organization, Telecommunication industry, IT industries, Health care equipment manufacturing industry, Mobile communication, Internet technologies, Power Electronics, and Other industries like steel, petroleum and chemical industry, directing control and testing production process. Electrical technicians and technologists can specialize in technical sales, product representation, systems management, the design and manufacture of electronic devices and systems, or the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic systems and equipment. They may also work with computers and electronic equipment in the medical, manufacturing, industrial control, telecommunications, aeronautical and military fields.

Depending on the chosen branch, students who study this course will be fully equipped to enter one of the following areas: Field of Telecommunications. Hardware Electronics Industries like Microprocessors VLSI design. Optical Fiber Communication Industries, Image Processing, Software Professional etc. Electronics and Communication engineers have opportunities in Government and private telecommunication companies for installation, operation and maintenance of communication equipments and systems. Defence, space and other large research organizations employ electronics & communication engineers in design and development of complex devices and systems for signal processing and telecommunication. Industries involved in design and fabrication of devices, integrated circuits, embedded systems, electronic equipments etc also provide large scale placements for engineers with this specialization. Installation and maintenance of electronic equipments used for health care in hospitals, equipments & systems for instrumentation and control in process industries automation systems of assembly line in production industries, etc are also handled by electronics & communication engineers.
